Shin splints is the common term for medial tibial stress syndrome.  It refers to pain felt in the anterior portion of the lower leg.  Active individuals and athletes are the most prone to this injury.

Causes of Shin Splints:

Overuse and Repetitive Movements
Flat feet
Poor Running Technique
Poorly Fit Running Shows
Shin Splints

Symptoms of Shin Splints:

Pain along the “shinbone” before, during, or after activity
Overlying skin may be red, irritated, or inflamed
Area is tender or sore to the touch
